Regular Program Tuition:

¥190,000 /quarter

Tuition for the Regular course is ¥190,000 per 10-week term.

Admission fee: ¥20,000.

Selection fee: ¥20,000.

This is for applicants who would like to obtain a Student Visa.

Material fee:
¥4,500 - ¥10,000
The materials fee depends on the level.

Class Size:

Maximum enrollment for each class is 14.

Placement Test:

Applicants who have previously studied Japanese must take a placement test in order to confirm the level of the placement. Your class will be determined by based on the result of the placement test and interview. Applicants who have never studied Japanese in advance do not need to take this test.

Promotion Policy:

Promotion and completion are determined by the result of the test that is given at the end of each term and daily activities such as group discussion, homework etc. Students who do not receive a passing score must repeat the same course.

Maximum Length of Program:

Students who has a "Student Visa" may remain at the JLI for a maximum of two years, even if they have not completed the Advanced level due to having repeated a course. (This limitation does not apply to most other visa categories.)

The Regular Program (5 Days a Week)

The Regular Program is split into 2 courses, such as the 2-year General Course (with a student visa) and Short-term Course (may register on a termly basis while your visa is valid).

■Main Features of the Regular Program

Target Audience:

Business persons, corporate trainees, family members of foreign expat, spouse of Japanese citizens, students of Japanese culture, and other adult learners.

Where the Students Come From:

We have an even distribution of students from Europe, East Asia and other areas, without a disproportionate representation from any one geographic location.

Class Contents:

  1. While putting an emphasis on practical communication ability such as conversation skills, we are also keen on developing the student’s reading and writing abilities.
  2. You will learn a good combination of Japanese manners, etiquette, culture and customs.
  3. Classes will be conducted in Japanese, utilizing an assortment of audio-visual aids.

Level 1 - 3 (Basic1, 2, 3)

The Basic Level emphasizes on verbal exercises, as well as focuses on basic communication skills necessary for day-to-day life, including elementary interchange.

Basic 1 Goals

To acquire basic communication skills for introduction, greeting, simple phone conversation, etc.

Study Contents
  1. Emphasis on verbal exercises so as to develop a feel for Japanese intonation. Mastery of basic grammatical structures and vocabulary necessary for day-to-day life.
  2. Compose simple sentences using hiragana and katakana. Learn approx100 kanji and read elementary sentences.

Nihongo de Business Kaiwa Shokyuu (Basic) Level
Basic 2 Goals

To develop the communication ability required to make oneself understood at the basic level at the hospital, when riding a taxi, making a hotel reservation, etc.

Study Contents
  1. Learn useful sentence patterns and expressions through exercises in short conversations.
  2. Learn approx 120 kanji, read and compose sentences mixing kanji and kana, and make oral presentations of compositions.

Basic 3 Goals

To work on communication aptitude to engage in basic conversation in commonplace life situations.

Study Contents
  1. Engage in imaginary conversations in diverse situations, including business contexts. Master standard sentence patterns suitable for each scenario, build up vocabulary and develop ability to express oneself
  2. Learn approx 130 kanji, and get exercise in reading.

Level 4 - 6 (Intermediate1, 2, 3)

The Intermediate Level develops the communication ability required for business and Living.

To develop communication skills for basic business interchange and more involved day-to-day interaction.

Study Contents
  1. Work on a natural conversation flow, from beginning to end, in such tasks as ‘making a request,’ ‘confirming what the interlocutor has said,’ and ‘asking for repetition of the preceding statement.’
  2. Get trained in using keigo in conversation, as well as in handling the give-and-take in an interview and drafting a resume.

To attain communication proficiency to interact smoothly with the Japanese in diverse fields and situations in business and life.

Study Contents
  1. Acquire an effective Japanese fluency in speech and attitude, flexibly calibrated for different situations and contexts, getting trained in such imaginary situations as taking over someone’s responsibilities at work, making a report to the boss, negotiating with an outside party, and troubleshooting.
  2. Master knowledge and skills required for business persons and adults, through such activities as reading newspapers and magazines, listening to news and making presentations.
