Plaza Accord

On September 22, 1985, the finance ministers of major developed countries met at the Plaza Hotel in NY, reaching an agreement to weaken the strengthened U.S. dollar. In a concerted effort, Japan, West Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States intervened in the foreign currency market, selling the U.S. dollar, and allowing their home currencies to appreciate against the U.S. dollar. Consequently, the Japanese yen appreciated from JPY235 to JPY160 per U.S. dollar in a short period of time.

1985年9月22日ニューヨークのPlaza Hotelに主要国の財務相が集まり、強いアメリカドルを解消すべく合意した。この合意により、日本、西ドイツ（当時）、英国、米国の主要国は通貨市場（currency market）に介入（intervention）しドル売りを行い、自国通貨の切り上げ（revaluation）に踏み切った。その結果、ドル円相場は1ドル235円から一気に160円台と、短期間で円高に転じた。
