Kevin:
Hello everyone. Welcome again to Nichibei Kaiwa Gakuin Podcasting. A quick and easy way to review English words and phrases. I’m your host, Kevin Jones, and today I’m here with Miyuki.

Kevin:
Hi Miyuki. How are you?
Miyuki:
Great. I’ve got some exciting news.
Kevin:
Really what’s that?
Miyuki:
I’m going to San Francisco for a week.
Kevin:
Sounds good.
Miyuki:
Yeah I’m excited to go.
Kevin:
So what are you going to do while you’re there? Any tours?
Miyuki:
No, not this time. I’m planning on just walking around on my own.
Kevin:
Well that’s a good way to see a city.
Miyuki:
Yeah I think so too. But what if I get lost. I’m a little nervous about that.
Kevin:
Don’t worry. I’m sure you’ll do fine.
Miyuki:
No seriously. I’m worried.
Kevin:
Well then. Let’s try a roll play and see how you do?
Miyuki:
Alright.
Kevin:
OK then. Here’s the situation. You are in San Francisco and you are trying get to Union Square and you are walking north on Powell street. You are not sure if you are walking the right way, so you ask a stranger on the street.
Miyuki:
Alright.
Kevin:
Ok, let’s bring up some city sounds … and action.
Miyuki:
Excuse me.
Kevin:
Yes?

Miyuki:
Where is Union Square?
Kevin:
Union Square? It’s on Geary street, next to Macy’s.
Miyuki:
Thank you.
Kevin:
Your welcome. OK Miyuki . How do you feel about that?
Miyuki:
Well, I don’t really want to know were Union Square is, I want to know the directions.
Kevin:
Well then. Let’s ask for directions again using the word way
Miyuki:
Way?
Kevin:
Yes, here are two examples of sentences that use way, when you are asking for directions. first… ” Which way is Union Square?” .

and secondly.. Am I going the right way? “Am I going the right way for the Union Square?”

Why don’t you try those two in a role play. Also, remember that it’s a good idea to repeat the directions you hear to double check.

Miyuki:
Alright. Excuse me. Which way is the Union Square?
Kevin:
Oh, it’s six blocks up this street on the right, across from The St. Francis Hotel.
Miyuki:
Six blocks, on the right, across from St. Francis Hotel.
Kevin:
That’s right. You got it.
Miyuki:
Thank you for your help.
Kevin:
Not at all. …. OK. Let’s try again with “Am I….
Miyuki:
Am I going the right way?
Kevin:
That’s r ight.
Miyuki:
Excuse me. Am I going the right way for Union Square?
Kevin:
Yes your are. It’s about six blocks up on the right. It’s just next to The St. Francis Hotel
Miyuki:
Six blocks on the right?

Kevin: Yes.

Miyuki:
Next to The St. Francis Hotel?
Kevin:
That’s right. Good Miyuki, that sounds fine. Did that help?
Miyuki:
Yes, Do you think we could try it one more time?
Kevin:
Sure. Let’s imagine you are trying to go to The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art
which is on 3rd street. Oh, and let’s add one more phrase. The phrase is How do I get there from hereHow do I get to The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art from here.
Miyuki:
All right. Ahh… excuse me. I want to go to The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art – am I going the right way?
Kevin:
Sorry?
Miyuki:
I want to go to The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. It’s on 3rd Street
Kevin:
Oh, the Museum of Modern Art. Sure, you go down this street, turn left at the next corner and walk another two blocks. That’s 3rd street. You’ll see The Museum of Modern Art on the left.
Miyuki:
OK. Left at the next corner, two blocks, on the left.
Kevin:
Yeah, you got it.
Miyuki:
Thank you.
Kevin:
